The U.S. Department of Agriculture estimates that 30 to 40% of the nation’s food supply goes to waste. This is why gleaning—the act of collecting extra produce from grocery stores and farms—is critical to our work. We glean both “off the farm” and “on the farm.” Off the farm gleaning is done by volunteers who rescue “not quite retail-perfect” produce from local grocery stores and deliver it to hunger relief agencies seven days a week, year-round. On the farm gleaning is done by volunteers who rescue excess produce from local farm partners during the growing season.
Up to 40% of the Nation's Food Goes to Waste
10% of Our Total Distribution is from Gleaned Food
Our Goal is to Increase Gleaning to more than 25% of our Distribution by 2028
From childhood through adulthood, we are educating Americans from all walks of life about the importance of nutrition, the prevalence of hunger, and what they can do to make a difference.
